Clinical Information
High Resolution Manometry

High Resolution Manometry (HRM) is a new approach of measuring pressures in the esophageal body and presentation of the results. This method consists of measuring multiple pressures simultaneously, allowing detailed assessment of all relevant data for the whole esophagus. HRM solutions for antroduodenum, small bowel and colon are available as well.

Besides the conventional displays, rapid data interpretation via Clouse contour plots can be established. The Clouse contour plot display offers more information than the traditional pressure curves and is still easier to analyze due to the recognition of typical patterns. LABORIE offers 36 pressures solid state and 22 pressure channels water-perfused HRM solutions.

HRM Advantages:
  • Improved understanding of the motility peristaltic pressure waves.
  • Prevent misdiagnosis of achalasia (pseudo relaxation of the LES).
  • Perform UES/LES investigations (also with water-perfused catheters).
Clinical Applications of HRM:
  • High Resolution Esophagus Manometry (HRM)
  • High Resolution Impedance Manometry (HRIM)
  • High Resolution Anorectal Manometry (HRAM)
  • High Resolution Manometry combined with Video

High Resolution Manometry can be used to measure peristalsis in the esophagus (HR(E)M) and to assess the apparatus and defecation provided by the anal sphincter (HRAM). HRM can also be combined with impedance measurement (HRIM) and/or video images and cineloops to view the swallows and bolus movement in the esophagus.

Impedance-pH Reflux Measurement to Diagnose GERD
What is Impedance?

Impedance measurement can be used to detect GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) and distinguish acid and weakly acidic refluxes causing symptoms.

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is caused by the reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. Typical patient symptoms are heartburn, regurgitation, and chest pain. These patient groups are often on PPI medication, but non-acidic reflux can still cause symptoms.

Traditional pH recording only records acidic pH reflux episodes. Impedance-pH detects both acidic and non-acidic reflux episodes.

Combined Impedance-pH recording is clinically useful in the evaluation of symptoms under PPI therapy, as well as for hoarseness, unexplained cough, and applications of particular interest.

Clinical Information
Biofeedback

Pelvic muscle rehabilitation (PMR) is a technique that uses EMG-biofeedback to improve pelvic floor strength by helping patients learn to control/contract the proper muscle groups through increased awareness. The application gives a visual representation of a change in a measured channel. Biofeedback can react on a pressure channel, an EMG channel or a combination of two channels.

The goal of biofeedback is to:
  • Enhance pelvic muscles’ awareness
  • Promote pelvic muscles’ function and coordination
  • Minimize using of accessory muscles
Electrical Stimulation

Electric Muscle Stimulation (EMS) involves delivering a small electrical current to the pelvic floor muscles to:

  • Produce a reflex muscle contraction
  • Contract pelvic floor muscles
  • Relax and inhibit pelvic floor muscles (as seen in urinary retention or pelvic pain therapy)
Biofeedback + Stimulation

With LABORIE Urostym, Stimulation is used as an adjunct to pelvic muscle exercises. Mixed biofeedback and stimulation protocols are highly effective to:

  • Provide a passive contraction that increases awareness of pelvic floor muscle contractions in general
  • Assist with identification and isolation of pelvic muscle
  • Increase pelvic muscle contraction strength
  • Decrease unwanted or uninhibited detrusor (bladder) muscle contraction
  • Assist with normalizing pelvic muscle relaxation

LABORIE is passionate about bringing freedom and dignity to patients suffering from pelvic floor disorders through innovation in diagnostic and treatment options. We work with leading clinician-researchers and local universities to incorporate the most recent advancements and technical knowledge into our products while reflecting practical realities of the typical pelvic floor clinic.

Litho-DK-30 Holmium Laser

images

MultiPulse HoPLUS is a high power holmium laser device characterized by great flexibility and efficiency, which is a must in centers of excellence in Endourology.

Fast, reliable and effective, MultiPulse HoPLUS provides unmatched precision and safety during all phases of surgery. Ideal for both surgical treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) and endoscopic treatments of lithotripsy, it is hardly recommended for long-duration procedures requiring high power thanks to its laser source reaching 140 W.

MultiPulse HoPLUS ensures high surgical performance thanks to the high levels of energy and pulse repetition rate, guaranteeing reduced operating time and cutting procedures that are effective and delicate at the same time, with an excellent hemostatic effect.

It does not produce carbonization or necrosis, leaving the surgical field free and clearly visible to the surgeon. The micro-pulsed emission together with the wavelength of 2100 nm which is well absorbed by water, produces a dual photo-thermal and photo-mechanical effect, which translates to effective vaporization, good hemostasis andreduction in thermal effects and damage to surrounding tissue.

MultiPulse HoPLUS is optimized for applications in Urological Surgery requiring high power emission, with a particular focus on BPH treatment. This laser system enables performance of both HoLAP (Holmium Laser Ablation of the Prostate) ablation and the more advanced HoLEP (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate) enucleation procedure, as a minimally invasive alternative to the traditional techniques of prostatectomy such as transurethral resection (TURP) and open surgery. HoLEP, thanks to the surgical technique progress together with the presence of the integrated mechanical morcellator (optional), makes it possible to reduce operating time and treat prostates of any size. With this technique, the enucleated tissue can also be evaluated histopathologically in all cases.

Benifits
Advantages for the surgeon:
  • High power laser
  • High peak power (with a wide range of power to get maximum operating efficiency)
  • High pulse repetition rate
  • Fast vaporization and cutting with excellent hemostasis
  • Ability to always perform the histopathological exam of enucleated tissue samples (for the MultiPulse HoPLUS is an integrated morcellator available as an optional accessory)
  • High versatility in endourology
  • Easy to install and operate
Advantages for the patient:
  • Minimally invasive surgery
  • Low probability of bleeding: recommended also for patients treated with anticoagulants
  • Low rate of side effects
  • Shorter catheter application time in the post-operative phase
  • Shorter hospital stay and recovery time
  • Low rate of recurrences
  • Immediate relief of symptoms

Multipulse HoPLUS is undoubtedly the most versatile laser system for Urology. It offers a wide set of applications ranging from the strictures treatment (urethrotomy), to surgical excision of tumors in the urethra, bladder, ureter and kidney as well as being universally recognized as the gold standard in endoscopic lithotripsy for the stones fragmentation and pulverization, regardless of their composition and anatomical location (also for common bile duct stones and sialolithiasis).

Clinical Information

The continuous progress in surgical lasers with fiber optics, combined with the widespread use of miniaturized endoscopic instruments able to go where a hand or scalpel could never reach, makes laser surgery the best support for the urologist and for the development of endourology.
